Painting and Photography

Panting was the most popular way of conveying reality through visual art form. There were also sculpture and architecture existing simultaneously with painting, but this art trend was the most developed. Till the middle of the 19th century, no one had ever thought that there could appear a "worthy rival" to it.

Nonetheless, in 1829 the first photograph was produced. From the mid to late 19th century, photographic processes were getting more and more widespread. As a result, painting was losing much of its influence giving way to the photography.

As a matter of fact, the situation with painting and photography is very similar to the situation with theatre and cinema (television). The art trends that were popular for several thousand years started to lose its influence with the advancement of the newest technologies what is absolutely natural.

So, what is better: painting or photography? The most evident feature of any hi-tech is that it makes production in an easy and serial production way, whereas painting as all other "old" genres are used to create something "serious" and "eternal". The painting is turned to when an artist needs to "catch a moment of perpetuity".

So, we shouldn't try to compare painting and photography or discuss them, both of them have the full right to co-exist.
